Appreciated the way our fabulous standard queen room with a view was arranged. Location: the hotel was close to the borrowdale valley, restaurant and venue and the Lakes. Plus it was 5 mins drive from Derwentwater.

The hotel was convenient and fairly clean, had good views of the lake. The room was good, thoroughly enjoyed it. Its location was stunning and super, in the restaurant on food that was attempting to be fine dining, and in a lovely area.

The evening's fresh sandwiches provided a nice touch, while the breakfast coffee was less satisfying than expected. Our stay was enjoyable thanks to the manager's really good hospitality.

Delicious evening meals with a wide selection of wines.
Shower pressure was annoyingly low, making it hard to enjoy.

The staff was very unfriendly and partly they were insecure of their job. Plus they were very stressed. Dinner's only until 9:00. You can't feel comfortable here! What a shame!

Refurbishment of the bedroom was a significant improvement.
Not good value for money.

great staff but lack of amenities
The staff stood out, being friendly and accommodating . The Prestige Double Room was quite spacious, with a comfortable experience for us.
The amenities could use improvement, as there weren't enough options for leisure activities.

The quietness, and "remoteness". We were just 3-4 miles from a main town, yet with just 2-3 cars per hour, you were much more relaxed. Plus no signal meant no mobile calls!!!!!

The hotel was comfortable and the decor tasteful. I appreciated a staff member carrying my heavy bag up to the stairs. We had a well-cooked meal in the dining room where the service was efficient but not particularly friendly. By contrast the barman was both efficient and friendly. My single room was small but contained everything I needed and having a bath was a bonus. I enjoyed my stay.
As mentioned above, the dining room staff were not very welcoming although certainly not impolite. A little friendly interest shown in the clients would have made the dining experience more pleasant.

would love to stay here again
We stayed in a Classic Double Room with a comfy bed, private bathroom, and tv. The food was really good, especially the Cumbrian lamb. The staff was super friendly. Morning breakfast had a great selection, including freshly baked croissants and lovely organic juices. Also appreciated the warm bathrobes and free toiletries. Perfect for relaxation.
